Zahrah is a 14 year old girl who lives in the northern Ooni Kingdom. She is what people call "dada". This basically means that her hair is made of plants. Being dada is very rare. Some people think that being dada causes strange things to happen, such as, mysterious winds, clocks stopping, etc. People who are dada are also supposedly rebelious. Zahrah is always bullied in school because of her looking different. Zahrah's only friend is Dari. Zahrah later finds out that she is also a windseeker. A windseeker is someone who can fly and is considered to be very wise and supposedly a myth. Zahrah is very shy, but as the book continues, she gets brave.
